SUMMER IS FAST APPROACHING

Posted by JW

SUMMER IS UPON US

As summer is coming upon us some things are late this year and some where early.  We just went through a long dry spell, then we got a substantial amount of rain.  Things  started popping up every where and blossoms are opening.  Garden Tractor-Lawn mower is in shop for engine repair.  Grass and weeds are growing like crazy, needs mowing.  Hope we get tractor back by this weekend.

Moving into summer the weather is cooperating and ground is warming up.  Able to work in the gardens as soil has a moisture content instead of being completely dry. After mowing the foot tall grass and weeds will continue working through the gardens adding compost and mulch.

I have photos of all our Lilacs in bloom, will post them in another post.  The Hydrangea did not do well this past winter.  Last years growth did not come back. Expect very little bloom on this years growth. Panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) so far has done well, we expect good bloom.

Did not start a lot of plants inside this year because we where in Florida when things should have been sown., do have some cucumbers, tomatoes, winter squash, green zucchini, and broccoli  coming along now will plant in about a week.  Will also be starting some vegetables for fall harvest in a few weeks. We have some Tomatoes in the ground now.

That it for this post.  Hope you enjoy the photos.  Your comments are always welcome.

Have a wonderful day.

  2. Hi Teresa: The dry weather slowed things down this spring. We have had substantial rain, things are looking good.

    Have a great day,
    John
