HELLEBORUS GOLD COLLECTION

FLOWERS FACE UPWARD AND THEY BLOOM ALL WINTER
‘HGC Jacob‘

Last Thursday an internet friend posted a picture of a Gold Collection Helleborus on her blog. After a couple of reply’s to the Post I knew that the Garden Center where she works had two left. The next day I called the Garden center and purchased them, made arrangements to pick them up some time over the weekend. Liza said I was “NUTS” but she did not hesitate to take the 222 mile round trip to Country Gardens Hyannis, MA. that brought these Jacob’s to our kitchen table.
Our plans are to keep them in the house for a while, will put them in a cool place near a window. They should do good for quite while. Will prep a place to plant them so if they have problems with being too warm, in the ground they will go. May have to harden them off a little before placing them out side. I can do that and if the winter prevents me from planting them I have a cool spot for them to make it until spring.

There is a lot of information about Helleborus Gold Collection on the internet. A good place to start is at this connection HELLEBORUS GOLD COLLECTION. Project for this weekend will be to set them up in the kitchen window hopefully they will be there until spring.
That’s it until the next post. Have a wonderful day.

Wow! It’s spectacular. That is a marvellous find.

HI Bernie; Don’t think there are any Helleborus that will make it in your climate. We have a place in Florida the climate is about the same climate as you. Am I wrong what is your climate ?
Have a wonderful day, John

Hi John, no you’re right about Hellerbores not making it here. I did try one two years ago. It lasted through that first summer two years ago, did really well through last year, but just couldn’t get through our horrid wet season at the beginning of this year. Well, you can’t say I didn’t try.
As for climate, yes our climate would be very similar to Florida, although I suspect your winter temps might be a bit lower. Here our day time temperatures hover between 31 – 37 deg C most of the summer, around 30 deg C through spring and autumn, and in winter we might get down to below 20 deg C on the rare day, lower sometimes at night. Short wet season, and very very long dry season.

Bernie: Yes very similar climate, a little colder mid winter. One problem we would have is there is not muck shade. So I guess I will have to keep the Helleborus to the northern garden.
Enjoy your gardens,
John

HI Ilona: I have been looking around at our local garden centers for about a year now, no luck. I now have the information of how to obtain them so wont be a problem getting more and also some of the spring/summer bloomers.
Have a great evening,
John

Those are really beautiful plants!
I think we have a plant from the same family here in Mississippi. We call it a Lenten Rose (but it is not a rose). It blooms outside in the Winter while everything else is still dormant.
Merry Christmas!
