LAST BLOOMS 2009
STILL BLOOMING
As October departs and November arrives we still have some plants blooming. Been snowed on, nipped by frost and cold wet weather. Yesterday it was 70°, today is sunny and warm. In spite of all that these plants are still blooming.

YELLOW BUTTERFLY BUSH
We certainly can call them all hardy to these conditions. Everything else is going into winter mode. I would have to say that the use of Compost and Mulching has greatly helped our gardens.
The lily really surprises me. You have some choice plants- I keep losing butterfly bushes to winter or dryness- not sure what goes on there, but yours is lovely.

Good Morning Ilona, The lily was planted during the summer and is trying to do it’s normal thing. Several others planted same time but have not bloomed yet. The yellow butterfly bush was planted last summer, it bloomed last year and this year is double in size and a very prolific bloomer. Have not had good luck establishing butterfly bushes either. I have propagated several from a purple one we have, most did not make it first winter. Lots of other failures. We now have two coming along going into second winter. Will have to wait and see what happens next spring.

I have a lot of things still stubbornly blooming but that lily definitely takes the prize. Holy cow! What kind of lily is that anyway? It looks like an oriental to me. Of course I have all of five minutes of gardening experience so what do I know? If it is an oriental did you stagger the planting or is this just in the ground all year? Mine only just now gave up the greens but the blooms have been long gone.
Oops, just saw that you planted the lily in summer. Still, I did one also in summer. Gone.
The yellow butterfly bush is quite lovely. I don’t think I have actually seen one here. But then again maybe I haven’t really looked. I was kind of on a blue tangent for awhile. LOL

Good evening LeSan: Have all of five minutes of gardening experience ! Took you longer than that to build those gardens of rock. So maybe you have 15 minutes experience. Don’t really know about the lily, Liza may remember but I think we got them during the summer and they where sprouting in the bags so got planted. There was a few more, some did blossom all where small plants. So will have to have patience and wait to see what comes up next year.

Have never figured out why the last blooms of the season
always seem the prettiest and brightest ones!! Maybe
because we know winter is in the near future. Glad you
had a very successful blooming season…can’t wait to see
what next year will bring!
