 SPRING MUST BE ARRIVING

Yesterday a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK had a starling for dinner at one of our feeding stations.  Today lots of different bird songs being played.  Chipmunks where out and about, did not get to take any pictured of them.   Red Squirrels have tunnels under the snow all over the place and the chipmunks took advantage of them. Tomorrow I will check the Lilacs and other shrubs that bloom on old wood to see what is going on with them. Did not see a Robin today but all other regular visitors came today.  More Starlings have arrived count is up to about 12 expect to see other blackbirds arriving soon.

  1. Hi John,
A Goshawk just killed a squirrel in our back yard next to the bird feeder. We had the same thing happen last year and now we aren’t going to feed the birds anymore. It’s a shame, but we are now afraid that Opie might be a target. I’ve read up on Goshawk and it says they wouldn’t be interested in a 14 lb. dog, but we aren’t taking any chances. That picture of the woodpecker is beautiful. Winter has been too long and too cold and I can’t wait for a warmer Spring. Say “Hi” to Liza for me.

HI Joy: The hawks feeding on other creatures is all part of nature. The heavy snow cover makes it harder for them so they go for squirrels and the like that are on top of the snow.

    Have a great day,
    John
